What Pediatric Practices Can Learn from Nemours
Across the country, pediatricians are seeing rising mental health concerns in children, and traditional referral systems haven’t been able to keep up. Nemours Children’s Health in Orlando responded by building a truly integrated model that combines in-clinic behavioral health, rapid tele-mental health access, and coordinated case management for social needs.
Their approach includes routine behavioral screening during pediatric visits, same-week access to licensed behavioral clinicians, and a rapid-response telehealth program (PATH) for early or urgent needs. Families receive support within the pediatric office they already trust, with care coordinated directly through the shared EHR. When housing or food insecurity threatens continuity, the Behavioral Health Hub steps in to stabilize care.
Nemours’ model shows what happens when access, prevention, and operational design align: shorter wait times, faster intervention, and fewer children falling through the cracks. It’s the kind of systems-level thinking CultivateCare champions in our work with practices across Georgia.
